Mine Fu by Avee

As the young disciple of Wuzan, the great Mine Fu master, brave ninja Ranju must hunt down the Seven Demons of Bom-Bom to save the world!
Previously sealed by the master, the Demons must be defeated once and for all!

Use your knowledge in laying down mines to blow up every Monster Cement tile specially made by the Demons! Walk over each tile before leaving the stage to beat the puzzle, but only once! Otherwise you will blow yourself up with your own arsenal!
Swing your sword, throw some shurikens and use other ninja gear to topple your opponents!
Laying down mines and beating enemies increase Score and Extra Lives!
Aim for the highest Score possible!

Great perils await Ranju in the 9 puzzle-filled and monster-occupied stages!
Fight your way through sandy beaches, murky swamps and boiling volcanoes!
Use your rock-pushing, pit-jumping and move-timing skills to reach the boss at the end of every stage!

Mine Fu is a puzzle game where our ninja will automatically mine all the "demon tiles" (some square with a face that change after it's mined) just standing on them. The problem is that he cannot walk twice on the same tile after mining it, so it's important to plan a path that will mine all the demon tiles and let our hero exit the area. To make the things easier there is the presence of normal ground (that isn't mined when the ninja walk on it) and the ability to jump one tile (while this is explained later, the ability is immediately available), while some enemies will make instead everything more complicated.
The little ninja can attack with his sword, but pay attention that every enemy has a different behaviour, some just move following fixed patterns, others run towards the ninja, some instead do not move and use ranged attacks.
There are gadgets that can be found hidden inside some breakable containers: shurikens and flaming swords that permits to attack from distance, a log that gives a couple of seconds of invulnerability, the grappling hook that lets the ninja cross huge gaps and the extra life that is always handy!
But pay attention that you can also find the black demon, that resets the level (you have to restart it but without losing a life, so take note of the container and avoid breaking it again!).

Random Fact: the game doesn't take itself seriously at all, and makes reference to all kinds of standard boss-ranting and senseless plots.

Final Verdict: the game is in my opinion pretty original and well done. I love how new element are progressively introduced like the rocks, the use of the grappling hook and the pink exploding tiles. Sometimes the bonuses are rather useless (it happened to find the invulnerability bonus in a level with no enemies!), in other places they are instead brillantly used (like the level with three enemies and a large gap between them and the ninja. Here you find a grappling hook and several shurikens to kill them before traversing the large pit), and I also find a couple of bugs like restarting a level and see some enemies dying without even touching them, and some levels being skipped (happened a couple of time, I just could see them briefly, and I remember playing them before... but sometimes the game decided to skip to the next level! Uh ok!).

There are also some minor problems that aren't bugs, like the fact that some opponents are extremely fast and for this reason hard to fight due to the slow moments of the ninja, and the lack of a message if you exit a level without completing it. I mean, when I first encountered the shooting enemies I believed these were considered traps and I just had to avoid them... but no, you must kill them too! Anyway yes, the game said "kill EVERY hostile" but it was way earlier, and I forgot!

In the end this is a puzzle game I enjoyed a lot. There are some rough spots and little problems but I think that the difficulty is for the most part well balanced and required the use of logic and some planning in most levels.

Ateria - Kontinent der Schatten by Xargoth (german)

An attack by a horde of vampires sweeps across the island in the great sea of Gaiana, nearly wiping out its entire population. Young Charon survives thanks to his combat skills and the training his father gave him from childhood.
He finds his father gravely wounded on the battlefield and receives a small key from him before the man ultimately succumbs to his injuries. The key leads Charon to the cellar of his own home, revealing the entrance to a small room. Inside, he discovers a modified pistol and a valuable elemental sword. He also finds a strange mirror. It turns out that a demon named Dagon is trapped within it; the demon immediately proposes a deal: Charon will gain a portion of its powers if he uses them to kill the vampires. Driven by a desire for revenge against the creatures responsible for his family's death, he accepts the offer.

Ateria - Continent of Shadows is a Rpgmaker horror game demo created by Xorgoth: the game is basically amystery horror adventure with a single character, a vampire hunter. It features some custom activities and original gameplay elements like climbing, a custom made combat system that lets the player switch between gun and sword, anyway the additions are still rather simple and do not overwhelm the player. The graphics use edited REFMAP assets and there is a lot of attention to light, shadows and atmospherical effects.

Random Fact: although the game includes a monster encyclopedia that can reveal the strength and weaknesses of the opponents, mind that it can be only consulted when in town and not while travelling! A bit odd choice anyway.

Final Verdict: despite the short playtime, Ateria is impressive as an high quality game with great use of lightning, good mapping, many poses, sprites ans features like climbing, monster encyclopedia, slot machines, and more. There are two only issues: the first is that you will often have to travel through the forest and that's becomes boring, there isn't a lot of story, since you are just a vampire hunter hunting vampires! That's it! Anyway it's an excellent demo, and very unique adventure, considering it was released in 2008 it was certainly one of the best games of the time. It's a pity this was never completed.

Necropolis by Jude

Take on the role of Marcus, an aging war veteran who awakens under peculiar circumstances... he has joined the ranks of the undead! Battle your way through a gothic necropolis of skeletons, vampires, and werewolves to unravel the mystery behind your undead condition. This RPG will feature a unique turn-based battle system, character customization to fit your play-style, and handmade retro NES-style graphics. Fight against your dark fate, restore your humanity, and take vengeance upon the creatures of the night!

Necropolis is not the classical Rpgmaker jrpg since this time we play as a single hero, an aged warrior. The game uses custom handmade retro NES-style graphics and a custom turn based system with skills that allow three possible specializations:  Basic, Finesse, and Power.

Random Fact: it's no mystery that the game is a homage to the Castlevania series, presenting a setting that's clearly inspired to the  popular series. Enemies are also similar, like the journey of a single hero, however the genre is pretty different.

Random Fact: it's a really a pity that this game hasn't be completed since it's a promising first half of a bigger adventure.

The Rose Chronicles by Legacy001

Rose Chronicles follows Roselle as she goes 7 years into the past to prevent a tragedy from occurring. The game plays similar to a 2005 GBA game: Riviera. In which you are not able to move a character around the map, but rather drag a cursor around clicking on nodes to advance the story.

A very unique gem of a game, the author ripped the sprites from a game called Hoshigami, then formated it to rm2k3 himself, and adapted the maps to the isometric characters, but since Rpgmaker 2000/2003 can only do diagonal movement in special cases, Legacy001 opted for some comprimises. The payoff? The game ends up exhibiting a distinct look compared to other rm2k/3 games. The demo is about  4-6 hours long.

Random Fact: The Rose Chronicles was just a side project made by Legacy001,worked on to take a break from doing the Naufragar series. Though it’s understandable why the project took too much effort to continue working on. In the end it ended up being one of the more memorable demos of the mid-GW era.

Final Verdict: this was a rather unique experiment that showed what can be accomplished using Rpgmaker in a different way, and if really offers something new and original. A must play game.

DEEP 8 by IndependentArt

The planets of the DEEP 8 universe are populated by different races like for example the mighty Droons with their green martialness, the furry Dominators, also called Summoners or the normally peace loving Dayigons, which is also the race, our protagonist Ramirez belongs too.

Ramirez might be the shyest individual, that you could ever encounter. Aside from being a social cripple, he’s a respectable fighter and reliable employee.
His female partner Meling is not a very pleasant companion. She’s barely talking to him and when she does, she usually does it in an insulting or humiliating way, which not really raises his confidence. Aside form being a real fury, Meling weilds a gigantic axe in battle, which enables her to crush any enemy they encouter.
Ramirez and Meling work for the emperor Vagnus of Antia. That is a big city on planet Lisarya, which is mostly populated by Dayigons.

For some weeks now, the people are very anxious, cause’ they seem to face a really great threat. They even have to fear the extinction of their race.
The Droons, allways known for martial behaviour seem to have set their mind to committing a genocide on the Dayigons. They used a weapon called Pluz-Cannon to vaporize several planets and raided others with ground forces. Now they are planning on destroying Lisarya as well with one big bang, but they ran out of the rare mineral Pluz. As soon as they find a new source for it, they would equip their cannon with it and blow up Lisarya immediately. Millions of Dayigons would be dust within a blink.

Deep 8 is a story driven sci-fi adventure/rpg with custom graphics and system: the game includes quicktime events, minigames and puzzles to make the adventure rather varied. The setting is original and this is a journey that takes places on many different planets and locations, including many quests and subquests.

Random Fact: the complete version includes both the english e german version in the same package. The language is selectable when starting the game. From 2023 this game was released as free to play.

Final Verdict: Deep 8 is an interesting game, that while not perfect has many interesting moments (including a section where you will be running around with a flamethrower! And battles between robots!) and a suggestive setting with various alien races and environments. In a certain sense this sci-fi setting reminds of Albion, an RPG released in 1996 by BlueByte Software, with the difference that here we'll be travelling between different planets. Combat is quite complex and pretty challenging, but grinding won't help much, a good strategy is surely more useful, but do not forget to look around for supplies and useful additional items. The only real problem I found were some jumps that required an exceptional (for me!) timing, anyway you can always re-try since they do not lead to Game Over, so it's not frustrating. Could have been worse!

In the end I find DEEP 8 to be an excellent product, with just some minor flaws but really engaging and well made.

Death Proclaimed II - Valerie's Letter by Fidchell

DP2 - Valerie's Letter is a subscenario focusing on Valerie and her endeavors before the arrival of Cory. While being stalked by a mysterious power, Valerie wakes up in her room to another day of hopelessness. She is surrounded by a ghost town, and the only beings she knows exist around her are the violent, overprotective spirits of her siblings.

Valerie has no idea what to do with her empty life. A strange presence lingers in the depths of her damaged mind, forcing her eyes to see horrible things that defy the reality Valerie is familiar with.
She tries hard to endure this strange force within her each day, until one day she receives a strange letter from under her bedroom door. It is signed by her close friend, Leah, who lives in a large mansion nearby the Bhamen Village. In this letter, Leah summons Valerie to her for reasons unknown.

Valerie, carrying new hope that her life is not completely demolished, goes on a desperate search for answers.

If Death Proclaimed II was an upgrade of the first game with a different story, this Death Proclaimed II - Valerie's Letter makes little difference: the game still offers a classic survival horror adventure in real time focused on exploration and combat. It's a prequel of the second game, where many characters of the previous adventure return, anyway it's suggested to play the at least that game to enjoy fully this game.
Still, there are new enemies, weapons and additions to the usual system.

Random Fact: Death Proclaimed II - Valerie's Letter is a spin-off but it can be considered a third episode of the series, anyway it's the only entry which is focused more on ranged battles rather than melee. This doesn't mean that the protagonist won't get in close combat with some opponents, however some bosses may only be fought from distance.

Final Verdict: Death Proclaimed II: Valerie's Letter offers the ultimate and best version of the action battle system introduced in the first game, unfortunately to understand the story and have fun you also have to play the previous episodes, of course! Good combat, but also good story and good scares, and good puzzles too. And also a great atmosphere, I was really surprised by this and how this series has reached a really good quality (just look at the maps in the pictures I posted: they're much better than the previous ones, and also better than the locations of many other horror rpgmaker games) that makes me give a better rating than the previous episodes. Really well done!

Death Proclaimed II by Fidchell

A young man named Cory lives with his aunt in a deep part of the woods near the city Winterveer. Cory has absolutely no recollection of his days before he was eight years old, but for the years after, he has lived peacefully with his aunt with no troubles.

One night, his aunt goes to Winterveer and does not return home for at least two weeks. Cory, not used to being alone for such an amount of time, takes it upon himself to venture out to the city and find her himself. It quickly becomes evident, however, that this trek is not going to be as easy as he thought. His simple journey to Winterveer will reveal itself to be the path of a horrible darkness, and one that seems to have a purpose in helping Cory remember his past.

Like the first Death Proclaimed, this is another solitary survival horror adventure in real time in which we have to survive the monsters that infest the misty city. The game uses an improved system compared to the first game, with a better inventory menu and

Random Fact: the second and third game are quite separated from the first, and coincidentally they are the only ones that have a guide. To be honest, the first one used to have a guide/walkthrough included with the game, anyway the developer said it's really outdated and useless.

Final Verdict: Death Proclaimed II is more of the same compared to the first one, but adds some welcomed improvements that makes the game more interesting and enjoyable. There are still some aspects that could be improved, like the puzzles and some areas, but for the most part it was a pretty fun dark adventure with some interesting moments. The game encourages replays since apparently there is more than one ending (and also you need to replay the game to unlock the boomerang, anyway I played through this game only once).
This is an old game, but yes, after playing the first game I think that progresses were made. Clearly it's not new or original, but being a sequel it was pretty much predictable and unavoidable! Anyway it's pretty good!

Death Proclaimed by Fidchell

A young woman named Alice returns to her hometown to end the haunting visions and grotesque dreams that plague her constantly. Her mind was filled with unanswered questions and the only way she believes she could put them to rest was by visiting the town once again. When she arrives to the desolate town, she discovers strange and hostile creatures lurking within. Still motivated by her quest for answers, Alice fights past the monsters with the sole incentive to ease her troubled mind.

With many influences by Silent Hill, Death Proclaimed was the first game of a trilogy, and probably not the best, but still one good introductive chapter, even if a bit rough: in fact this game features a Custom Battle System and Menu System. It also features a Custom Health Bar, intense gameplay, and a gripping story. This game has three endings that depend solely upon how you play the game and what certain items you are able to get.

Random Fact: this series was quite liked by Gibmaker, the author of The Longing Ribbon, that gave an ok score to this entry, an excellent score to the sequel and even playtested the third game.

Final Verdict: while this last version is still far from perfect (again, I often mentioned the problems that has Rpgmaker 2000/2003 with making action/real time games, that are realized a bit better with other engines, no matter what), it corrected several issues and flaws. Anyway even if the gameplay was not the top for me (especially when bosses are encountered, maybe I'm too bad ehe! But I also hate those teleporting enemies) I cannot deny that graphics and atmosphere where pretty much very good, and music and sounds complemented all of this. The effects, like the lights and darkness and the atmospheric phenomenas are also used very well, where, for example, many other horror games exceed with the use of fog and darkness. On a last note, there isn't really anything visually disturbing except for the occasional dead body or spray of blood, still the atmosphere of dread and impending danger is pretty effective. Not bad.

Dark Dreams by TitanOmega

A boy wakes up with no memory of his past during a stormy night. Apparently he was a normal human once (eve if he had white hair, but uh ok), but now he's a sort of anthropomorphic rabbit. For some unknown reason he was also transported to a world populated by other anthropomorphic animals that are mostly friendly, but it's also a world where the wilderness is plagued by monsters and bandits. The rabbit-boy, taking the name of Cole (or whatever the player chooses) arms himself with a mallet and decides to find a way to go home...

After a short but nice animated cartoonish intro, the game starts with a simple mission: go back home. This adventure follows the classic tropes of the classic jrpg games: the protagonist will have to helps the inhabitants of this mysterious world to obtain their collaboration, earning the trust of some friends that will help him during his adventure, fighting monsters and exploring dungeons. That's nothing new at least mechanically, but the cute custom art and lighthearted story make this rpg stand out among the countless FF-clones made with Rpgmaker 2000.

Random Fact: while this is a classic rpgmaker game, for some reason the developer created a custom menu that includes some extra options (like managing the gauntlets, the items used to "do magic" in this universe). Not that was really necessary, but again, like the cartoon-like cutscenes s something that makes this game different from the others.

Final Verdict: despite the title this isn't really a "dark" game, it's pretty lighthearted. And it's also a pretty interesting strange fantasy adventure.

Theory of the Order by Oldpat (italian)

The story begins with a blind prisoner being interrogated: his enemies are trying to learn where are his associates, but the man refused to reveal anything, saying that the Visionary is aware of their moves.

Then the game cuts to to a scene where two men are travelling on a land vehicle through the wasteland: the blue haired is Hen, and the blonde man is Rye. The are two Confiners of the Order, and Hen is the most experienced of the two, while Rye is taking part to his first mission. It seems that to become a Confiner they have to fuse with a demon, leading to a loss of memory, and this is a traumatic beginning for Rye that became a Confiner two days ago, on the other hand this will let him capture demons and use them in battler.

Unfortunately his first mission won't go as smoothly as expected...

Theory of the Order is an Rpgmaker adventure/rpg that borrows some elements from Shin Megami Tensei and Pokemon, since the main hero is able to summon creatures in battle. The game was initially made for a short RTP contest, but then it was updated to an Enhance Version that improves both graphics and gameplay, however being a game made for a contest, it is complete, but not very long.

Vinc90 collaborated with some maps and Sacred Virgo a.k.a Shellshaka made the music, while the custom art and edited charsets were made by Oldpat.

Random Fact: a sequel was planned to give a closure to Rye's story, called Theory of Emancipation, and this game was unfortunately never released, although there are some videos on Youtube of some demo gameplay. On the other had in October 2014 was released a fake demo, but see below for this extra.
Note that both these games includes the first title screen used for the original release of the contest version, and it's the one here.

Final Verdict: a short but well done techno-fantasy rpg with some interesting mechanics and pretty custom art. It is however just an introduction to a large world that unfortunately leaves many details unexplained, still it's not one of the usual fantasy jrpgs, but it has its own charm.

EXTRA -  ̶T̶h̶e̶o̶r̶y̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶E̶m̶a̶n̶c̶i̶p̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶  Theory of the Order: Fulletto Edition: in this comedic series of cutscenes, a hen named Hen is sad because a blue haired man named Haen took his place in the game to play the role of the protagonist's mentor. Meanwhile the bad guy, Mahagruder, is enrage for being fired and replaced by an RTP character. They decide to team up to sabotage the game...

Metal Gear Solid: Lunacy of Legion by Zephyr

You are Solid Snake - master of stealth and overcoming situations concerning huge, warhead-equipped robots.

Now part of the anti-Metal Gear group Philanthropy, you are dispatched to deal with a rumored Metal Gear under development in the region of Mandora.
Will you - Snake - be able to stop this possible threat?
Or will the bad guys have it their way?
Or more importantly, will you be home back for dinner?

This is a Metal Gear-fangame, uses graphical and game-mechanical similarities with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The game is in real-time and mainly features stealth but also includes boss battles where combat is mandatory. The game merges two different gameplays in a very effective way, making a solid stealth adventure that's also pretty challenging. There are five difficulty levels.

Random Fact: the game is a parody of the Metal Gear games, and while it features some well known protagonists like Snake and Otacon, it adds some humorous dialogues and situations. But the stealth action is instead very serious, so it's still not a joke game.

Final Verdict: Metal Gear Solid: Lunacy of Legion" was probably a bold (and fun) experiment, and while not perfect, the result is in my opinion pretty good: this is a cool, imperfect and cute parody of Metal Gear mixed with Zelda. The game has some minor issues (like for example at a certain point I was not sure about where I was supposed to go) and some problems due to the imperfections of the engine, but if you do not take this game too seriously, I'm sure you can have some fun!

The Burning Grail by eNSO

In a post-apocalyptic world survivors of mankind live in wasteland and ruined cities. The only law in such a chaotic society is a military group calling themselves as 'crusaders'. The organisation fight against 'demons' (that's how they call mutated radiation victims) and rebeling 'heretics'. The opposition is mercilessly burned by a special squad of 'executioners'. The primary goal of crusaders is to discover 'The Burning Grail' which was lost long time ago, the ultimate weapon against their foes.

The main hero Vick is one of the crusaders. He lives in the headquarters with his sister and is quite devoted to his duty. One day during the ordinary scout mission Vick discovers something shocking that forces him to quit crusaders and join the forces with his former enemies...

The Burning Grail was originally created for one short RPG contest so it only has like 2–3 hours of gameplay. The game itself is very similar to Riviera on GBA. A single click of directional button sends the hero to the other map, comments on object, etc.
The game is mostly linear, but there are some optional areas, regarding combat it's based on resource use: you can use different firearms that consume different amounts of ammunition based on how much damage they will cause. I didn't see that some weapons are more effective against certain enemies than others, so it doesn't really matter which one of them to use. You can also attack unarmed to spare ammo or use healing items, and so on. The graphics present classic Rpgmaker sprites, few rips and some edits, to create a post-apocalyptic world apparently inspired by the Fallout series.

Random Fact: aside for the battles, the limited exploration and the linar story, the game includes a single minigame based on car chases that happens a single time during the second half of the game. This is a simple action sequence where Vick has to shoot the pursuers, and it's the only playable sequence that happens in real time and when we have full control.

Final Verdict: The Burning Grail is an interesting experiment: while I am not too found of linearity and lack of exploration and I missed the possibility to explore every map looking for supplies and interactive items, at the same time I appreciated a lot the idea of making something new and different from the usual Jrpg. The game suffers somewhat from the lack of variety in the combat system. However, the thrilling story and the good writing make up for a lot. It kinda feels like an action movie.

Sanatorium by Xargoth

You're amnesiac and stuck inside a mysterious psychiatric facility and someone wants you to find him a roll of toilet paper. While you're at it, you encounter all sorts of strange fellows.

Sanatorium is another game made by the german developer Xargoth that was translated into english. This game is a surreal adventure game where an amnesiac protagonist has to find the help of someone that wants a toilet paper. The game is an adventure but includes a custom battle system, even if the most interesting aspect is the custom graphic style and the side view maps, really uncommon in the Rpgmaker games.

Random Fact: the game is a demo, but feels pretty solid. However it's quite strange that despite the use of custom graphics and original sprites, the developer found no time to make a custom title screen like for the other games.

Final Verdict: a pretty short 12-15 minutes demo with a cool visual style and very interesting premise. It's really a pity this game was never completed since it shows lots of work and inspiration.

Sainth by Neok

Years after the events of "Wraith", a young girl named Lily, has a chance encounter with someone familiar. Following that, she soon finds herself stranded in a strange place with nary a soul in sight. As she struggles to gain her bearings, a voice echoes inside her head. It is the World Tree, telling her to seek out her memories from long ago...

Wraith: The Second Chapter ~Sainth~ follows the story of Lily Collins whose life has changed after the disappearance of her friend Kana Alywin from the prequel and once again meeting her after 3 years.

Sainth, or Wraith: The Second Chapter, is a sequel of the he survival horror Wraith that focuses on a secondary character, the blonde Lily. This time the game is a visual novel adventure with exploration and searching for items, plus many dialogues, and this makes it pretty different from the first game. Anyway what's still here are the mystery-horror elements, the game is in fact dark and like the first one it includes two different possible endings.

Random Fact: the game uses a side-view platform-like style that was already used in Alter Aila Genesis. While the setting and the game is completely different, the exploration of the maps is pretty similar to the other game, making this game even more different from the prequel.

Final Verdict: Sainth is a totally different game compared to the first one, maybe not even a game but a story (even if it has two different endings, one of these is very depressing!), anyway I liked its originality (side scrolling rpgmaker? Really uncommon) and the narrative segments. It's probably not a game for everyone, especially for those who want a real challenge, puzzles or a more complex gameplay, but for me it was a good experience. Naok's art skills and style also makes this adventure look unique.
In the end, even if this game may not appeal everyone is still an enjoyable story if you played the previous game, maybe not a perfect conclusion to the series, but still a pleasant surprise!

Wraith by Neok

During a 3-day workshop in Australia, a girl named Kana discovers a dark secret hidden beneath the manor she is staying at. Now she must work against time to save her friends from a fate worse than death. There are two objectives: Solve the mystery behind the existence of the wraith, and live to see the morning sun. Dawn is only a few hours away...

Wraith is an adventure with horror elements, the game is about exploration, and includes visiting various locations from laboratories to a lighthouse and a hedge maze, besides the mansion, of course, but there are also puzzles and various combat encounters against some mutant creatures! This is a sort of Silent-hill-esque rpgmaker game! But here we aren't alone since the protagonist will be sometimes assisted by some npcs. Regarding combat the game uses a sort of custom system that gives us different battle options from attacking with a gun (that is only found after the first half of the game) to run away, push enemies back or use items like a flashlight or a lightstone. Another interesting aspects are music, sounds and the custom CG scenes and portraits drawn by Neok, really well done.

The game has a good and a bad ending, depending on what happens and if the Wraith is defeated before or after daybreak. Anyway a walnkthrough can be found HERE.

Random Fact: Wraith was the first Rpgmaker 2003 game by Neok, and was going to be the first part of a trilogy. Unfortunately only a sequel, Sainth, was made and focuses on Lily, Kana's best friend. The third game was titled Candice, and it seems it was first planned, but later cancelled.

Final Verdict: Wraith is an ok game! I liked the story, the setting, the graphics... BUT I was not really fond of the combat system or the puzzles, I enjoyed some aspects of the game (aestetic and story), while I found others pretty much frustrating (the gameplay, and I must admit that while I often enjoyed flawed game with not-so-good mechanics, I could not really enjoy this one!). This does not make Wraith a bad game (but yes, it shows being one of Neok's first games, and also it's not my favourite considered other masterpieces we got from this author such as Alter Aila or Red Syndrome), but probably one that can really be appreciated by some players. So, if you like survival horror games I suggest you to give a try and see.

Dyhortfight series by Bradgeone (french)

This time not a single game, not two, but a series of four! Dyhortfight is in fact a French indie RPG series created with RPG Maker by Bradgeone starting in 2001, featuring an interconnected puzzle-like plot across multiple chapters.

Dyhortfight

In the first game of the series Bradge must destroy one of the Timeless Dragons in the year 2999. To do so, he must find a way to take part in a grand monster hunt organized by the King of Tempo.

Although it stands apart from the later episodes—particularly regarding the CBS, which hasn't aged very well—this is arguably the series' most uninhibited installment; it lays the groundwork for a complex time-travel plot and introduces us to a key figure: Bradge, the most ambiguous and unpredictable character in Dyhortfight.

Dyhortfight 2

This time, we dive into the 25th century, where Bloosky—accompanied by Kléa and Darkbeat—attempts to retrieve the seven energy orbs belonging to the Timeless Dragons...

This episode is the first to truly define the series, introducing elements that would become staples of the franchise, such as a trio of heroes, a menu system featuring spell learning and custom stat boosters, and a combat system with the visual flair of fighting games like *Street Fighter*. It’s a real feast for the eyes!

Dyhortfight 3

This installment stands out because it continues the story of Chapter 2 with Bloosky, Darkbeat, and Kléa, while simultaneously following another group—Alastor, Tyonie, and Oko. This time, the plot centers on a competition in the year 2436, where the winner earns the chance to ask two questions of the man who knows everything... The competition will be fierce, but will there be a winner?

Captivating, moving, and action-packed—don't miss this episode!

Dyhortfight 4

The fourth chapter of Dyhortfight takes place primarily in the year 4000—an era equivalent to our own modern world. Follow Falco, Pride, and Etniie as you try to survive amidst Sleipnir’s elite troops, the "Enfants de Cœur," and the "doubles," whose power is beginning to rise dangerously.

This chapter can be played independently of the others, as it features its own unique story and plot.

Random Fact: the fifth entry is apparently in deveopment. This will the final chapter of Dyhortfight. You will have to travel through all the eras to resolve a multitude of temporal problems.
