The story starts when a town in Japan is attacked by monstrous creatures from another dimension. The protagonist is a highshcool student that accidentally kills the heroine, a schoolgirl with two magical guns by bumping into her, that falls on the road and is hit by a car. To make amends our protagonist takes her weapons, that lets him access to various powers like demon summoning, and fights the invading monsters. With the help of another magical schoolgirl, this armed with a giant hammer, he will have to enter a portal to another world and search for the source of evil.
Aberrant is a classic rpgmaker game with two main protagonists and a party of four filled with guest characters and summons. The game has a parodistic tone with many references to other medias: the protagonist, that looks similar to Noriaki Kakyoin from Jojo has a power that lets him summon creatures by shooting himself, like in Persona 3, there is the appearance of some characters the from Front Mission and God Eater series. Despite the humor, the game has still some dramatic moments and it's a pretty combat-intensive adventure.
Random Fact: one of the enemy bosses fought through the game is Shōkō Asahara, a Japanese cult leader and terrorist who founded and led the doomsday cult known as Aum Shinrikyo. He was convicted of masterminding the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway. In the game he is one of the human allies of the bad guy.
Final Verdict: and excellent Rpgmaker game, the art is especially excellent in my opinion. The game has also a sequel that was as good as the first. Pretty challenging, compared to most other japanese games I played.
