Zedric is a young and promising fighter, and during the first mission against the Kandarin forces, his irascible instructor Serith gets angry and attacks him. Years later Zedric has left the army, but he still dreams of his defeat, meanwhile Serith was expelled by the army and later disappeared. Zedric now is an adventurer, and he intends to explore some nearby mines with his friend Jerris. Here they find an Elemental Manipulator that lets Jerris use magic. When they come home they find a strange fellow, Ruke, that tells them they are predestined to save the world from the Kandarin and their satellite. Unsurprisingly, Serith will be involved and will antagonize them…
The Kyrent Project is a typical Rpgmaker2000 game with front view battles, dungeons with random encounters and the occasional puzzle. The developer tried to add some custom element like a sligthly more complex magic system and some button mashing quicktime events, but in the end this is still a pretty classic adventure rpg.
Random Fact: the evil Serith possesses several similitudes with the more famous Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII: he has a similar faceset, white hair and a similar name name, he is extremely powerful, we get to play with him in the party for a couple of battles and has a blonde antagonist that was in the same team. Moreover he is the big bad with a dark plan for the future of the world too.
Final Verdict: I do not know if this was intended, but some parts of this game made it look like it was a parody. It is in fact a little strange, but not bad. It's another of these ok games!
