Space Attorney by Superstroke & riderx40

Eris is a young attorney who worked in the purgatory for several years, until one day he became the accused in a rather weird case that left him in the spot. Can Eris win this trial with his friends or he will be sentenced to the blackhole for eternity?

Space Attorney is a little visual novel made for the 2016 Swapsie event by two developers: Superstroke made the first half and riderx40 the second. It's a very strange visual novel with surreal elements since it's about a lawyer that works in Purgatory that gets in trouble with aliens. Yeah. The game is short but very stylish, combining cutscenes with black-and-white silouhuettes to colorful slides.

Random Fact: while this is TECHNICALLY a fangame and parody of Ace Attorney it's so detached from the source material that you don't need to know anything (except maybe that it's about a lawyer!), I mean it's a different game, there aren't cameos of characters from the series nor there is anything that relates to it. Probably it was just a pun on the title.

Final Verdict: Space Attorney was a game I probably found while looking for Ace Attorney fangames, but well this game is really not what I expected. Well I'm not sure anyone can expect something from this game, that's really peculiar, original and unique adventure, surely not without flaws but probably this can be excused being this an event game also done by two different developers. That's not easy!
So if you want to play a bizarre interactive visual novel ("so bad it's so good")... you won't be disappointed! Unrefined, but wildly awesome.

Sideways by Superstroke

Words are for meaning: once there is meaning, one can forget the words.

A dreamer just arrived in this peculiar world. The inhabitants of this strange world happen to need the help of an outsider.

This is an attempt to make a peaceful, meditative game focusing on an ambience inspired by the Chinese/Mongolian/Tibetan countryside. In addition, as a personal challenge, the game does not contain any dialogs and everything is communicated in some other manner.

Sideways is a strange experience: the gameplay consist in exploration and solving little puzzles or fetch quest, even if just one is sufficient to end the game, and it's probably the most difficult of all, even if this is a pretty simple and easy game. It's a sort of little cozy adventure game. The visuals use the white screw resource pack, and the map looks beautiful: the game in fact is set on a single map, a sort of cylindrical world, so you can travel around it just walking... sideways.
The music is excellent: four of the tracks are very atmospheric oriental styled tracks by Kevin MacLeod. The music starts with The Rainbow by Talk Talk. It all does an excellent job of defining the game's atmosphere and nothing could have fit it better.

Sideways is a game developped for the 2017 Winterruption event.

Random Fact: there are exactly eleven quests in this little adventure.

- The Ballad of the Grey Man
- Blood on the Snow
- A Bridge over Trolled Waters
- Dark Side of the Road
- A Grave Remembrance
- The Last Dancer
- Any Port in a Storm
- Rune of the Moon
- Twin Souls
- Visions and Voices
- All's Well That Ends Well

Final Verdict: a lovely, artistic little game that I'm fairly sure is unique. Worth of your time since it's pretty short, and that's its only problem.

The Iron Age by Superstroke

The game starts telling us of the Creator, the entity that made the world and now calls the chosen heroes in times of need. The Ancient is the protagonist, a descendant of these old heroes of the past and the current Chosen One. He is awakened from his slumber, and given a sword called Glorious. A sword that cannot be used in battle, but a relic that can store and release great power. Then our hero starts travelling to restore the balance in a dark world. So the unnamed protagonists starts his journey, and other immortal spirits of the previous Chosen Ones will join him in his quest…

The Iron Age is a peculiar dark fantasy Rpgmaker game where we play a lone immortal character: there is no game over, after every death the protagonist wakes up at the previous savepoint with all his items and experience levels. Each level it's possible to select which characteristic will be upgraded or which skill will be learned, and later the hero also gets a couple of summons that add extra party members. The game is linear but there are some hidden areas for extra battles and loot. The game was released as a demo, and the story is incomplete, but reaching the end allows to play infinite battles and also unlocks all four summons.

Random Fact: The Iron Age is a homage to the Dark Souls series, and there are many details that confirm this: the immortal protagonist starts with a broken sword, like in Dark Souls, there is a Solar Cult that is similar to the Warriors of Sunlight, and the savepoints indicated by burning eerie blue light are basically the bonfires.

Final Verdict: I enjoyed this game because it uses an original concept that makes it similar to the soullike game merging it with the classic Rpgmaker system. I'm sad that there is no complete version because the setting is charming, and playing it was an interesting experience!.
