Warrior Saga by GDSA Team (russian)

The story takes place during the second great war between the Sagdan and Dagonian empires, unleashed by Rumata, who sent his Red Armbands against the Sagdans. The main plot revolves around the Secret of Ages, an ancient technology possessing immense magical power. Everyone is hunting for it, especially the villains, who are on Rumata's side. The main characters are two warriors from the island of Eidon sent with the task of protecting the Secret of Ages, or rather, one of its fragments, which turns out to be... a little girl! Thus begins a great and exciting journey making allies and enemies through a world engulfed in yet another world war.

Developed by the GDSA team in 2003-2004, it was never fully completed. However, a rather lengthy demo version was released (7 hours!), and you can download it below. I was really impressed because rather than a classic fantasy rpg, the team created a believable steampunk grim world where magic is mysterious and rare: armies are composed by riflemen with tanks and planes, the heroes fights with guns and swords. There are lots of sprites from various sources, edits and custom art that give an identity to this unique setting. Impressive.

Random Fact: despite never being completed, this game had two spin-offs:
Warrior Saga - Hot Road is a complete action shooter (with two endings) about a deserter of the Sagdans. After the Dagonians killed his girlfriend, he decides to face them as a one-man-army to protect the peasants that rescued him. But the Dagonian leader possess a child that can turns in something lethal (maybe a reference to the Secret of Ages in the first game? Anyway we get to see the island of Eidon once more).
The second game was Warrior Saga - Dagonia, and it's an adventure game without battles about a homeless orphan of war that discovers a dark secret about the people who are hosting him. This game was a demo.

Final Verdict: a really unique epic adventure, and it's really a shame it has no conclusion. The different characters and the setting really stood out from the houndreds of generic fantasy rpgmaker games. This is an unforgettable game with its mish-mash of resources used to create a very unique world.

Ryuukishi no me II - Beyond Reality by DragonSlayer

The futuristic city of Riubane is under the attack of a ruthless terrorist group. To oppose them was created a military organization called S.A.T.M.D (Special anti terrorism missions division), and our hero, the swordsman and martial artist Toshio, is one of the prominent members. However the attacks seems to be just a distraction, since the real aim of the terrorists was the theft of a top secret experiment. Toshio and his colleague Kira are then sent to investigate, a mission that will take them to different planets.

Don't let the boring title screen trick you, Ryuukishi no me II is a game that tries to put together a lots of cool elements: a anime-styled cyberpunk setting, monsters, robots, martial arts, airships, big swords, summons, betrayals and Metal Gear Solid references. Ok, for the most part it plays as a classic Rpgmaker game with some random battles and some avoidable enemies, anyway the author surely tried to add many features like gears that a character can ride, multiple planets, free roaming cities, collectibles, and cool attack sprites and cutscenes created with edited rips from beat em up games (especially Final Fight and Street Fighter). Some minor issues are probably the overly spacious maps and some imprecisions, but I can forgive something to a game that is 20 years old!

Random Fact: while most of the rips comes from Final Fight, the battler of the protagonist Toshio is a black haired edit of Cloud, that's in turn an edited sprite made by a user named Chucho, used in a game called Final Fantasy Fighter (that you can check HERE). The original base sprite seems to be Trunks from Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden, that the author edited to resemble Cloud Strife.

Final Verdict: after getting the airship I was a little lost, but then I found out what I had to do. The first half is pretty different from the second half of the game, anyway this is a pretty cool and interesting game, and while combat wasn't very fun, the story kept me interested with its surprises and twists.

DupliCity by Ryanwh

DupliCity is a cyberpunk story: in the future a group of expert operatives prepare for an important operation against a powerful local leader, and at first everything goes well… but suddenly it turns out that they were betrayed! Ruthus, the protagonist, is nearly killed. However the agents who have him in custody decides that after he wakes up from the coma he may be a useful asset, but our hero isn't willing to follow the orders, and decides to battle the corporations and unveil the Conspiracy…

This time I didn't brough a game, because DupliCity is in truth a linear visual novel with very limited interactivity, formerly released on GamingGroundZero. The main part consists in cutscenes: action sequences and dialogues. There are some rare parts in which we can move the character and interact with the surroundings, but for most of the time we'll just have to sit and enjoy a story of robots, hackers and hi-tech assassins. I must admit that while limited in its scope, this "game" really presents some well done scenes and dialogues, nice music, maps and charsets are also appropriate and the setting created by the developer recalls popular cyberpunk anime series like Ghost in the Shell or Cyber City Oedo 808. It's also a complete story, even if the ending seems to hint a possible sequel game based on this.

Random Fact: this game was the winner of the Misao "The Fonz Award" for Coolest Storyline. A well deserved award, if you want my opinion!

Final Verdict: this is a very well made setting, and maps are also excellent. I only wished there were more interactive parts and gameplay. Still this was an interesting and unusual use of Rpgmaker. A really unique experience.

Final Fantasy: The Phoenix Prophecies by Madriel222

Nickel Arand is a highly trained swordsman from the planet Miidrio with the mission to assassinate the Emperor of Nafein. The adventure starts inside a spaceship, in fact Nickel belongs to a very advanced civilization, compared to the primitive world where his mission will take place. Nickel reaches Nafein posing as a taveller, but infiltrating the keep and reaching the Emperor will be more difficul than he expects…

Final Fantasy: The Phoenix Prophecies is a fangame inspired by the popular series. Surprisingly this game uses a real-time combat system with a single playable character, that's pretty vague and probably the weakest part of the game (avoiding the enemies is easier!). In any case it seems that there were also three companions for Nickel, but the first joins at the end of the demo, so we do not know how they would support him in combat. For the rest we have puzzles, stealth sections, optional sidequests and some investigation, adding some features to a game that's interesting but also pretty short. The graphics are nice, and there are some unexpected details, like the sounds of the protagonist's steps that changes depending on which material he is walking on (stone, metal, etc).

Random Fact: if you played any Final Fantasy game, you probably know that Gil is the name of the currency used in all games. This fangame makes no exception, however our protagonist, that comes from another planet, in the beginning oddly tries to pay with dollars! And no, dollars do not appear in any Final Fantasy game.

Final Verdict: I wasn't a fan of the realtime combat, and I avoided it entirely, and I wasn't also a fan of the final puzzle, but aside for these two inconveniences, I found the story pretty interesting and maps well made and rich of details. A peculiar fangame.

Reminisce: Endangered Memories by UPRC

Eleina is torn between choosing her ambitions to study and become a priestess and staying with her childhood friend Duran and her relatives in the town of Vila.
We play as Duran, and everything starts a morning that his father, the blacksmith Arden, asks him to deliver some dirks he made to the nearby shop. Duran spends his time hunting wolves and searching for cheese thieves, but in the end he will spend his last night with Eleina, since she decided to train as a priestess. But the priests sent to escort Eleina to the priory do not show up, so Duran and Eleina decide to investigate...

Reminisce is a 3 hours demo with nice mapping and colorful characters: the game includes optional quests besides the mandatory ones, exploration and many, many battles. Yes, the maps are probably overcrowded, and the enemies even respawn, but luckily they are often pretty weak and there are many ways to be healed. I like how the characters will also develop some new standard attacks or abilities at 0 mana cost. Visuals are nice, there are lots of custom edits (the facesets from Ogre Battle are cool!), animated battlers and sprites. Unfortunately the demo hasn't a real ending but you will just exhaust the things you can do.

Random Fact: the game is full of little details, for example our protagonist Duran is said to be a heavy sleeper that wakes up only at late morning, and frequently naps. This is also confirmed by Duran's victory stance, where he starts napping!

Final Verdict: a pretty classic fantasy adventure that ends a little too early. It's fun even if the maps are really overcrowded with enemies and while they aren't too tough, sometimes that's a little annoying. But I didn't find other flaws, so I must say this is a polished and well done demo!

Angels of Exodus by Illustrious

Liam dreams to reunite with his brother after he received a letter from him. However Meriveau is in the New World, so the trip won't be short. Liam reaches the town of Fern during the evening, hoping to catch a ride to Meriveau. This time the demo never gets to Meriveau, nor we'll experience the shenigans and battles of the original title, and it's just a short introduction to a bigger adventure that was never made.

Angel of Exodus is a peculiar title: in this prologue we can explore the little town of Fern, chat with bizarre individuale, gamble and even hunt faeries (honestly I did not like that minigame, but it's optional), anyway he real focus of the game is leaving the place. This time there isn't action and all plays more like and adventure game, with a couple of cutscenes that hint to some mysterious menaces that the two brothers will have to face in the future. Aside for a couple of maps that are pretty simple and used in cutscenes, the game looks like a big improvement over the first demo.

Random Fact: in both Angels of Exodus and Forever Across Dreams appears a character called "the sneaky wizard" (that resembles a Black Mag from Final Fantasy). He hides in some corner of a map, and the player has to find him, however you can find him only once in each of these demos (or so I think!), so we have no idea about which reward was offered by finding him. Anyway play and see if you can find him too!

Final Verdict: while this game wasn't as weird as the previous version, it left me with more question unanswered, but I liked it much more: the setting and mapping are nice, there are lots of interesting characters and nice custom animations. I just wished it was longer, it was a promising beginning.

Forever Across Dreams by Illustrious

Liam dreams to reunite with his brother, so he travels to Meriveau, a peaceful town, and he finally reaches his brother's home. But his arrival doesn't go as planned and after exploring a bit the town strange and unexplicable things start happening! As Liam loses contact with the reality he gets mysterious powers, but he will also have to face challenges and enemies.

Forever Across Dreams starts as a low-fantasy story, and then it suddenly becomes a mysteryous adventure. Unfortunately the game is a demo, so many questions will be left unanswered. This is what you can expect from a classic Rpgmaker 2000 game, exploration ,battles and the occasional puzzle, but there are some particular edits and surprisingly little detailed animation (like when a secondary character types on a keyboard).

Random Fact: Angels of Exodus was an attempt of Illustrious to remake this game. The plot is in fact the same, and the intro sequence (with the dialogue in front of a waterfall) is also virtually identical, save for the use of different assets, the new game also contains an alternate main screen with the old title Forever Across Dreams. However in this remake the story takes a different direction, and it's even shorter than this demo, offering only a sort of prologue. But this will be seen next time!

Final Verdict: to be honest I didn't understand much of the plot or what happens, still I had fun playing it and expploring the various locations. I even do not know if I was at the end of the demo or if it was a glitch, because I found myself trapped inside a strange room. And what came before that part was pretty weird but entertaining.

Alvorada Do Mal by Calunio (portoguese)

Alvorada do Mal (Dawn of Evil) is the story of Dorio, an ordinary high-school boy who one day finds out that strange things are happening in his school, his house, and his entire city. People start to behave oddly, badly, and turn into monsters. Not knowing what to do, Dorio and a few friends escape town, and eventually come across a strange masked man who says a powerful evil being is bringing a new era of evil to the world. Between not believing and not wanting to be a part of it, Dorio and his friends are caught up in a strange set of events, and have to travel through strange places and try to figure out what's going on.

Alvorada do Mal is a dark modern horror RPG using basic Rm2k3 system with lots of custom graphics, edits and also minigames. This game impressed me because it creates a convincing and interesting modern world where the supernatural is present, some maps like for example the big city (Magnopolis) are impressive. The game has also various paths that lead to different situations: in the beginning you may befriend a school bully and have him join the team, but it's not mandatory, later there is a situation where Dorio may become more than human and get some powers, which ones will be the player's choice. The game also uses a selection of popular music from Green Day, Offspring and Metallica, but they fit the theme since Dorio is a teenager and the game also has a section that takes place at a concert. My only gripe is that this game was never complete, so there isn't an ending to the adventures of Dorio and friends. Pity. Anyway you can still enjoy this unique game finding it here:

Random Fact: although the demo was sadly never translated in english, there is a collection of all the minigames featured in the game that's instead available in english: you can find and download this "minigames-only" version from the first link together with the Demo 4 version.

Final Verdict: this game is basically a fantasy rpg with a dark modern setting, like a horror version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I loved the concept, and despite the use of classic rpgmaker battles and sprites, it has a distinct charm with the incredible quantity of edits, minigames and probably the best modern city map I've ever seen!

Tales of Urodora by Budowear

Phalcia and Urodora are two separated worlds: the people of Phalcia used to exile people, often criminals, to the barren lands of Urodora, that soon became overpopulated. Valian, the man who rose as the leader of the people in Urodora, built an army to start a war against those who exiliated them… unfortunately for him the Phalcians have some gifted individual called Dreamchasers that can reach Urodora through dreams, while Urodora doesnt.

We start playing as Daryl, a promising young knight that fights for Valian in the war… but we also play as Raine, a young Dreamchaser from Phalcia that doesn't know how he came to Urodora, as Vistido, a mercenary Phalcian general, and the mysterious sorceress Deseree.

Tales of Urodora is a classic Rpgmaker game with random battles, many cutscenes and dialogues and lots of walking around. In fact it will happen to visit the same areas many times even if using a different character, and the adventure is mostly linear. I consider this more an adventure than an rpg since most of the time (but not always) we'll play as a single character rather than a party of heroes.
For a 2002 game this isn't bad, and the assets are used pretty well, still more recent games will be probably more varied, interesting and entertaining.

Random Fact: the title screen, that doesn't even display a title, was used as it is also for another Rpgmaker 2000 game, El dragón rojo (see here). Other games like Sword of Salvation or Tallon instead added the title of the game on the picture.

Final Verdict: this game uses a lots of Rtps and battles are also pretty bland, anyway the narrative is interesting with the constant shifting between different characters of different sides in the conflict. Something I didn't expect, because you normally play a hero that fights the bad guys and that's it. I just wish there was less walking around.

The Song of Elegin by Madriel222

The Song of Elegin starts on the aftermath of the defeat of evil: the demons were banished from the realm, and now after the Xiannodel Wars, those who were trained in the arcane arts find themselves purposeless, and the masses they protected from the dark demonic forces now look at them with distrust and fear.
Oroth Naraskodel is an apprentice mage who's 10 year training at the arcane academy known as The Order. A deeply caring and empathetic individual, Oroth now heads back to his childhood home of Innarlith, back to a father whom he believes abandoned his responsibilities as a parent. Embarking on the long odyssey with his childhood friend, the young warrior Berundd, he will attempt to find purpose in this world. What will start out simply as a journey home will evolve into a great adventure that will make our heroes reveal and face the greatest conspiracy the world has ever known.

The Song of Elegin is apparently a classic Rpgmaker2003 fantasy game: there is a certain freedom to explore and talk to people to obtain a series of optional quests, the game uses classical random battle encounters, but there are also some really interesting features, like the day/night cycle that also changes the dialogues of the npcs encountered, there are many custom menus to keep track of the various quests and to manage spells and characters. Overall these additions are good, but add an extra layer of complexity that not every player may like. Mapping is for the most part pretty good, with varied areas ike colorful villages and dark forests, sunny beaches and snowy areas.

Random Fact: Madriel isn't just the name of the developer of the game, but also of an important character that appears in this adventure. This character (like all the important ones) has a unique faceset, and coincidentally is the same used for Nickel Arand, the protagonist of another game created by Madriel222, Final Fantasy The Phoenix Prophecies. But that's another game for another day.

Final Verdict: this game was impressive for some features, like the night-and-day-cycle or the usual portable teleporting device, but for the rest it was a pretty much classic rpg adventure. The game also leaves lots of freedom, something that may lead the player to enter areas where the opponents are too tough. Anyway it was an ok classic game!

The Shadow of Life by Legacy

During the middle ages Lord Ferith the Seer escapes from the king that wants to execute him. But since the lady who saved him is going to be burned as a witch, he returns to the castle to rescue her, unfortunately during the attempt he is killed by the king's men, and she dies in the pyre too.

In 2001 a young man that lives in the city of Kerain, Narin Ressanon, is haunted by some weird dreams about mysterious entities that are calling him. Things aren't also going well with Kara, the girl he loves, anyway he will soon have other serious problems: for some unknown reason the police is going to arrest him for terrorism. Meanwhile Kara must escape from a burning building…

The Shadow of Life is a game with some good ideas, an many problems: sure there are lots of maps, puzzles, a hacking minigame and timed action sections, unfortunately the realization is a bit… mediocre. Maps are often big and almost empty, there are really too few savepoints, and too many dialogues with typos. Some situations also do not make sense (for example the protagonist is lost in a forest but suddenly he remembers there is an exit through a tree? How??).
Anyway you can make your own opinion playing the game:

Random Fact: the game is set in two different time periods and there is an attempt to diversify them: the middle age section has charactersthat speak in a sort of archaic english language, unlike the parts set in the modern times that use modern slang. Oddly both timelines feature some popular rock and pop songs from the 80s-90s.

Final Verdict: this game started strong with an interesting story connecting past and present, but later parts showed a lack of polish, some ugly maps and a couple of errors if you do not follow exactly what the developer expected you to do. The timed section was also not so good. It's a pity, because the game has a nice intro and some well made cutscenes.

Love and War: Act I by Admiral Styles

This game starts with a mysterious opening about two strange characters, but after a short series of dramatic events we start playin ad Ryan Eramond,a young man of eighteen who has just graduated from high school, and has the rest of his life in front of him. The story begins light-heartedly enough, with situations based on the joys and trials of adolescence, involving Ryan and his best friends Armin and Henrik, the girls Marianne and Lavie, and his rival Juno. However, as the game progresses, we slowly begin to learn about political unrest in Terra, and by the end, our hero and his friends have all been touched by it.

Love and War is a complete game, even if the story is left open for a sequel. It's however a real charming and lighthearted game with lots of explorable maps, custom cutscenes and art, and interesting characters. We also have the opportunity to play ad Juno and Lavie (that surprisingly unlike other characters can gain levels by solving tests of agility or intelligence!) in some sections, and the game includes nice custom aspects, from the custom menus to the voiced dialogues (a really unique feature!) and Ryan's custom combat style that employs the use of both sword and gun.

A really fun experience, grab it here:

Official Site
Rmarchiv.de

Random Fact: as an added bonus, from the official site or from this download link you can get C'est Lavie, a spin-off fifteen minutes funny cutscene made with Rpgmaker about Lavender "Lavie" Regale, Ryan's childhood friend.

Final Verdict: the first time I played this game was in the beginning lost, not knowing what I had to do. Later, after I figured out, I became invested in the story and characters, that are pretty likeable and interesting. This was probably the first game I played that wasn't an epic tale of heroes battling dragons, and I enjoyed it anyway! Very polished and fun.

Beyond Dreams by Mad Hatter

In Beyond Dreams we play as Elias, a soldier and personal bodyguard of Prince Clarence: they met ten years ago, and now they are friends. The game starts with the the Prince's speech, and Elias that has to do his usual security job, but after that event, Clarence tells that he spotted a beautiful girl among the audience of his speech, and he would like to know her. So that's how the adventure begins, with two friends searching for a pretty girl…

Beyond Dreams is a fun game, a demo packed with activities: besides the usual battles and exploration, found in most Rpgmaker games, there are puzzles, minigames, a cooking system (that in this demo starts at level 1 and can reach level 2), and a casino where you can gamble your money. Oh and do not forget to "attack" the bushes on the various maps since they may hide some loot.
The aestetic are also refined: maps are well done, and there are many edited sprites and custom graphics, like the portraits or the title screen. I can really recommend this game, it's a pity that the demo was never completed. Play and have fun:

Random Fact: for this game also Mad Hatter's sister collaborated and they won the 5th Misao award for Best World Map in 2006.

Final Verdict: ok this is a must-play! While the story isn't complete, the quantity of details and activities is impressive, I must recognize that a lot of work and love was poured in this game. Pity we'll never have a complete version, because it was impressive at the time of the release, and it stands out nowadays too.

WorldSong by Craze

Raniano, Ryan for friends, is a half elf (father is a human, mother is an elf) that quarrels with his parents, and decides to leave his home after their last argument. The day after, he then joins a trio of wacky adventurers: April, a mage obsessed with cakes, Adomi the snakeblooded human, and their magical talking green cat Treewhiskers. The four friends will go to the Adventurer's Guild of the nearby town and get the briefing for their first assignment…

WorldSong is a comedic fantasy adventure (even if it culminates with a dramatic cliffhanger, since it's the demo of a first chapter) about a group of unlikely heroes. The game uses edited sprites, nicely animated battlers, and some really hilarious custom portraits for the main cast. It's also an anti-grinding game since you get no experience point nor levels from the battles (there is only a single map with random battles), and the main adventure consists in a dungeon where all the combat encounters are fixed.

Get the game here:

Random Fact: the only way to improve characters, aside for upgrading their equipment, is to answer some trivia questions about the game setting and story, asked by some stone gargoyles. Each correct answer will net some kind of upgrade for the heroes.

Final Verdict: while I prefer other games made by Craze, this still has some fun parts! The portraits of the various characters are especially funny, as are the battle animations. It's a pity it is so short, since I'd have liked more adventures of these strange adventurers!

Fifth Era - Fragments of the Holy Stone by LolloRocketDiver aka MissingSeven (italian)

The story opens with four mercenaries sent by the Red Wolf Corporation to check a radio antenna. The squad is attacked by a dragon, and only the swordsman Redian survives. He later learns that monster are returning since the Fourth Era is ending, and the one that collects the pieces of the Holy Stone will become the God of the Fifth Era. Both the ruthless Red Wolf Corporation and the dark sect called Sabbat are looking for the pieces, but Redian decides to antagonize them with the help of a ragtag team of rebels…

Fifth Era is the first complete italian rpgmaker game I played, a love letter to Final Fantasy, especially FVII and FVIII, since it takes inspiration manly from those two (but not only! Anyway there is a location identical to Costa del Sol, e party member that looks like Rinoa, etc...). The game is pretty easy, except for a couple of optional quests that flesh out the lore of the setting and explores the past of some characters.
Speaking about characters, there are 12 party members (3 of these optional), an unlockable stealth minigame, hidden artworks and cutscenes. The game uses many edited sprites, like the colorful Fire Emblem portraits and battlers. The developer later created even better games (such as Theia the Crimson Eclipse), but this was a pretty stylish, enjoyable and fun game too!

Random Fact: the game originally included a special dungeon that was removed from the game, called The Mad Place. Here the characters had to face opponents from their past (like their parents, their mentor or their younger self) in boss battles. The facesets, charsets and enemy sprites are still in the game, and the author covered this cancelled part in a Youtube video. However other mysteries remain, for example the unused battle of an archer named Seth that doesn't appear in game.

A remake, or better, a reboot of this game is in the works. It's going to be a very different game, I mean some party members will become npcs, some npcs will be playable characters, some characters are gender-swapped, the setting is somehow different and the plot was changed… so if you can do not refrain to play both games. The new Fifth Era demo can be found on Itch.io and on Steam.

Final Verdict: a pretty long game, but despite this I played it twice! It's a pretty and fun game, even if difficulty is very low, except for the very difficult optional quests, summons are overpowered and the dialogues are sometimes a little cringy, but the developer was very young at the time. And made me enjoy a lot his creation!

Birds of Freedom by TheDigitalMonk

In this game people are enslaved and forced to harvest a magical plant called Majai by the cruel wardens that use guards and monsters to keep workers from escaping and rebelling. The magical plant is then taken into a factory, but no one is allowed to enter the place. The protagonist is one of these slaves that decides to gives himself a name, that his very first step to escape his endless servitude in the fields.

Meanwhile a rebellious organization called Birds of Freedom opposes the cruel teen emperor Envidous that created these working camps, and one of the rebels, the sorceress Meyai, encounters and helps our protagonist. Meanwhile, in another land, Hyerde the adventurer is summoned to King Duman's castle…

This is another old rpg that uses Final Fantasy VI sprites: our unnamed protagonist uses both Locke Cole's charset and faceset, there are Moogles, the evil warden looks like Gogo. There are also sprites from other sources and edits, and the game plays like a classic Rpgmaker 2000 game (this time without battlers nor attack sprites), there are some simple puzzles, a stealth section and multiple playable characters. An ok game for the time in which it was released, despite the banal looking untitled title screen it's a little better than you may think.
Check it here:

Random Fact: during the first 15 minutes of the game, after a dramatic scene, the evil hooded warden wakes up the protagonist and then drops Darth Vader's most iconic quote "I am your father"! But this will turn out to be a lie.

Final Verdict: this was an interesting game, but I expected something more. But like the previous game, this is still ok, and has some interesting parts, at least the developer tried to entertain the player and keep the interest with different playable characters and situations, even if the story isn't overly original.

Knights of Eden by Rpgwolfpack

In the past the Knights of Eden fought a great war against the evil Domnu armies, bringer of chaos and suffering. The empire is annihilated but the Magus Ban-Fail was able to seal the Nexus imprisoning the Domnu and their Queen in space and time, but also creating four different realities.
Like in the previous game, we can choose our hero and starting scenario:

Levy Griphon is a warrior, descendent of the people of Eden and son of the wandering knight Rolantes. Levy is visiting the temple where he spent his youth with his zany friend Finn the brawler. Joined by his childhood friend, the priestess Mari, they will have to search for a fugitive in the Beltaine Forest.

Morringan is instead a child of the Void and a sorceress. The archmage Nuada raised her after the death of her mother, the wayward seer Ethlinn. One day Morrigan dreams of the legendary Magus Ban-Fail, and when she wakes up she notices that Nuada left, summoned by King Dagda, so Morrigan decides to explore the world.

Aside for the starting character selection, this is a classic fantasy Rpgmaker 2000 jrpg adventure, with many random and boss battles, exploration and puzzles (like the classic boulder/barrel pushing mazes). Walking is a little slow and there are some very large maps, besides some initial difficulty spikes (Morrigan's first battle, Levy's lack of money/equipment), but that's never too bad. No battle sprites, but there is good music and the best thing are the many little animations that make the characters very expressive. And here's the game:

Random Fact: in one room of the temple you can find a cameo of Inuyasha, Kagome Higurashi and Kikyo from the InuYasha manga and anime series.

Final Verdict: this is an ok game, there are some parts where you have to look around and find out what you are supposed to do, but at least I found the difficulty to be manageable. Escape from battles is often possible. So it's among of the forgotten games that deserve more love.
